The Opportunity Agenda
The Opportunity Agenda, a project of the Tides Center, is an advocacy organization whose mission is to build the national will to expand opportunity for all Americans. The Opportunity Agenda hired Advomatic to migrate its website to the open-source Drupal CMS and CiviCRM from Kintera, a commercial solution.
Challenges & Needs
The Opportunity Agenda's previous generation website did not effectively feature its groundbreaking research and policy initiatives. The solution included expensive monthly costs and did not have enough scalability or content flexibility to match the changing needs of a growing organization. Advomatic was asked to migrate many pages of content, including policy analysis reports and blog posts to the Drupal CMS. The membership database of over 20,000 contacts would need to be migrated to CiviCRM.
Solution
CiviCRM is an open-source Constituent Relationship Management solution for non-profits and advocacy organizations, designed to integrate seamlessly with Drupal. Advomatic's in-house CiviCRM expert, Dave Hansen-Lange, migrated The Opportunity Agenda's entire contact database from Kintera Sphere to CiviCRM. Unlike many popular proprietary CRM tools, CiviCRM has no monthly costs associated with its use and allows for customization. And as an open-source software platform, CiviCRM is constantly improving, thanks to its active and large developer community. The Opportunity Agenda's CiviCRM installation includes CiviEvent for event management and registration and CiviMail for email messaging, along with a number of customized development enhancements. Advomatic's themers created custom email templates for use in CiviMail.
The content reorganization for The Opportunity Agenda uses tag clouds to help users navigate to issue areas of interest. Site administrators can tag blog posts, policy analysis reports, events and press items by issue area. For the migration to Drupal, Advomatic's theming did a pixel-perfect recreation of the original design.
