Oliver Willis
When influential blogger and staff member of Media Matters, Oliver Willis called asking to have his existing site redesigned, we jumped at the opportunity to help a colleague in need. Oliver wanted a dynamic presence that reminded his readers of the good old days of gumshoe journalism, when reporters' only agenda was to get to the bottom of the story. He wanted to evoke Walter Winchell, the Grey Lady in her heyday, the respect and grace of the old media.
Crack Open the Books
We poured through old newspaper headers, closely focusing on the newspapers of the 40s, in the hopes of emulating their retro and classic line and style. The final result created a tight fusion between old world journalism and the new media being created in the blogosphere. In the end, simple and clean design invited his readers into a welcoming environment representing the storied history of print media.
